Intranet Portal Development

The right skills “makes the difference” when delivering keys developments.

The right people “makes the difference’ when delivering SharePoint solutions. SharePoint is a technology that needs to be understood from an architectural, development and operations perspective; and choosing a partner that can execute strongly across all these areas of the product is critical.

The SharePoint Architect

The SharePoint Architect plans and coordinates technical activities and system architectural component development throughout the project lifecycle by working closely with the project management, stakeholders and users as well as the Design and Implementation team.

The SharePoint Architect surveys and analyses business and technical information, conceptualises the viable solutions and applies the Microsoft platform and unique features of SharePoint to obtain a best practices platform-based solution.

Our SharePoint Architect has had many years of experience designing and implementing SharePoint solutions for customers in varying industries. For more information on our experience designing and implementing SharePoint system, please contact Connected Systems.

The SharePoint Developer

The SharePoint Developer highly technical and able to write .NET code and package features to customise SharePoint to meet the business opportunities. The SharePoint Developer has .NET competencies as a pre-requisite with varying degrees of proficiency in software development.

SharePoint developers have a broad set of .NET v2.0 and v3.0 skills and a strong understanding of the SharePoint Object Model. A command of SQL syntax is also required to modify features like Enterprise Search and Business Data Catalog. ASP v2.0 Master Page development is required for branding/look and feel changes within SharePoint. XML & XSL is also a strong requirement as many web parts can be configured using these standards.

SharePoint is a platform for hosting eForms and Workflow. Developers need to have a command of the InfoPath 2007 forms development tool and .NET framework v3.0 (specifically Windows Workflow Foundation) to build these solutions. XML, XSL and XSD knowledge is paramount as InfoPath as it is based on these standards.

Workflow developers need to have a good grounding of the .NET framework and web services to publish workflows and activities within the workflow as web services for forms to consume.

With the broad areas of development skills needed for SharePoint solutions, it is likely that you’ll span multiple developers with overlapping skills.

At Connected Systems, our development team prides itself on understanding all aspects of developing for SharePoint. We understand how to get the best from SharePoint and can differentiate between configuration development and customisations (using code).
